Stings & Allergic Reaction

Most stings are painful. A few close the airway.

How you know

  • Anaphylaxis: throat tightness, hoarseness, wheeze
  • Swollen lips or tongue, widespread hives
  • Dizziness, collapse, vomiting
1

Scrape a bee stinger out sideways with a card.

Do not pinch — that squeezes in more venom.

Never

  • Never wait to see if breathing gets worse before injecting

Evacuate now if

  • Any epinephrine use — always, even if they feel fine
  • Throat, tongue, or breathing involvement
  • Stung inside the mouth or many stings at once
