Shock

How you know

  • Pale, gray, cold, sweaty skin
  • Fast, weak pulse; fast shallow breathing
  • Anxious, restless, then drowsy or confused
  • Thirst and nausea

Stop the cause first.

Bleeding, severe fluid loss, or allergic reaction. Shock is a symptom.

Never

  • Never let them stand or walk
  • Never give alcohol or caffeine

Evacuate now if

  • Any suspected shock is a call-for-help situation
  • Level of consciousness drops
  • Skin stays cold and gray after warming
