Head Injury & Concussion

Watch the level of consciousness — it tells you everything.

How you know

  • Any loss of consciousness or memory gap
  • Worsening headache, repeated vomiting
  • Unequal pupils, clear fluid from ears or nose
  • Increasing drowsiness or confusion

Assume a spinal injury too if there was a fall or impact.

Never

  • Never leave a concussed person alone overnight without checks
  • Never let them return to activity the same day

Evacuate now if

  • Unconscious for any period
  • Getting more confused or drowsy
  • Seizure, unequal pupils, or fluid from the ears
  • Anyone on blood thinners
